- Loved the room and the amazing view. We had been on the road a few days and felt pampered arriving here. The pyjamas nearly fit me!
- I first stayed at this property 15 years ago, so wanted to stay here again on my anniversary trip to Toba. This time, I took advantage of the hotel shuttle that picks guests up from the station and transports you up the hill to the hotel. Also, the first time I stayed here in 2011, I didn’t know about the neighboring ryokan run by the hotel that features a hot Spring hotel guests can use. There are two different hot springs that use Mikimoto pearl products that make your skin feel fantastic! And because it was winter, they were doing marshmallow toasting in the lobby. I love that the rooms have a table and chairs overlooking the bay, it’s a perfect spot to unwind with a glass of wine or sake at the end of the day. Breakfast buffet had ample selections, although some of the items weren’t hot (this was towards the end of the service). Outstanding customer service.
- Great place quiet rooms on a hill
Cons -
- There was one thing that wasn't great. We went downstairs for a drink and something to eat as we didn't feel like leaving the hotel. 6.30 pm on a Wednesday night. Everything was closed except for two fancy restaurants with very expensive menus. No bar. No snacks. No room service....and the shuttle into town had finished for the day. I was pretty disappointed considering the status of the hotel. We had to go out in the night and find ourselves a meal. If we had known we could have planned around it. Its not like 6.30pm is late...
- Note that there are two different wings, the harbor wing and the ocean wing, the buildings do connect via a passageway, but I did get turned around at first. The first floor passageway that connects the two has some very interesting historic photos of emperors and famous visitors to the hotel.
- Onsen while great is at another hotel and have to change back to travel on the complimentary shuttle. Would be better if there was an on-site

Onsen while great is at another hotel and have to change back to travel on the complimentary shuttle. Would be better if there was an on-site
Wow! Incredible hotel. It has absolutely breathtaking views. The room was so roomie for the three of us. We each had a bed. There was plenty of room for our carry-on luggage as well. The Onsen was incredible. The location was a short walk to Toba station and to town.
The friendliness and helpfulness of some staff (the night manager and the lady at the front desk on day 2) .Tbe parking.
Not much else. The property is clearly in need of a renovation. The photos on booking.com do not show the reality. Stained carpets and seats, loose power sockets and most problematic a very old, inefficient AC system. The building "Ocean Wing" should be avoided. At least one room there has a problem with a window not closing properly so you feel and hear the draught. Some of the staff are oblivious to the issues affectimg the hotel and getting a decent room was quite an ordeal. Breakfast could be good, if only they kept the food at the buffet warm. The kitchen staff do seem to know their trade - a pity such good food is served cold or lukewarm at best.
The hotel was a bit dated, but the room was spacious and with a great view. Staff were friendly and helpful. The big disappointment was that the bar was permanently closed!!
Not everyone but one of the driver for Shuttle bus ( train station to the hotel ) was rude. We got on the bus on 27th of March 2015.The other staffs were very nice and professional.
Stunning location, great hotel, excellent staff and fabulous breakfast. But the town of Toba is run down. I wish the hotel had a walking path or boardwalk and some benches along the cliffs. Onsen is in annex which is not convenient.
This hotel is amazing. The rooms are huge and so comfortable, the staff exceptional and the breakfast buffet had a huge selection of Western and Japanese options. The view from the outdoor lounge is incredible. We got up to watch the sunrise from the outdoor area and the staff provided the guests (there were about 10-12 of us) with coffee while we enjoyed the changing colours. There is a lot of history here as the Emperor stays here and Queen Elizabeth did as well. It’s lovely to see they celebrate this with their displays.
That we only stayed here one night! We would have like to have had evening drinks at the outdoor lounge but the bar closed at 5pm (temporarily I think). The options for dinner here are mainly fine dining so if you are looking for something different you’ll need to head into town.
Very good location, hotel shuttle at the Toba Station, all staff were very hospitable and friendly and made us feel welcomed.
We like this hotel. The view was very pretty. We were facing the harbor. We saw sunrise from our room. It was a plus during our stay here. The hotel is fancy and very beautiful surroundings. Our room was clean and spacious. We loved our room. All the staffs are very helpful and eager to help. We felt we were treated like VIP. They offer shuttle bus that really help us a lot.
The pearl spa was really impressive. Restaurant is nice too. And good view. Bed is very spacious.
Nice hotel with many nice spots to take photos and with good view of the ocean. We happened to be there where there are fireworks. Hotel has its own shop, good for some last minute buying. Staff were professional and friendly. They even provide senbei in the room, my daughters love it! Location near to pearl island, toba aquarium.
Futon is a bit too thin for us. The room corridor has a bit of mouldly smell.
The views from the hotel are gorgeous, especially the outdoor patio/lounge area. Tatami room was very spacious and perfect for our family with young children. Staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. Shuttle bus service to and from Toba station was very helpful.
There should have been information about the shuttle bus and pickup point from the station given during booking. We tried to walk there from the station but we found that it's not really doable up the steep and winding mountain road with luggages and 3 small children. Thankfully, the staff found us at the "halfway" mark (the Onsen), and offered to drive us up to the hotel.
Excellent, friendly staff. Professional translation technology available for 17 languages in case of language barriers. Nice room with view, luxury amenities (Mikimoto) and option to go to the onsen, overall a fantastic stay.
This hotel locate on the hill. Having good view. Breakfast and dinner are good. Our room is clean.
Staff cannot speak English. Our room is on another building which a bit far from reception area.
Top rate service, excellent French restaurant and breakfast buffet. The bath involves a nice walk and was top rate.
Very spacious and clean
Great staff, good food, and clean
Excellent view and staff
Breakfast buffet could be better in varieties of choice in western menu.
Amazing hotel, stunning views, incredible onsen.
Toba itself is a bit of a ghost town. Only people there seemed rich people buying pearls. And our family.
